Just a few years back kayak fishing was something unheard of , fishing from something unstable was not everyone cups of tea , however with time things improved greatly and eventually the troops rallied .
This is Loch Ken 3rd edition . Situated in the galloway forest the loch is merely 11miles long . We started right in the middle from the only one caravan park .
Well planned in advance , 40 kayakers from all over britain met in this special scenic place . We all got up really early , got our kayaks ready and listened carefully to the proceeding . This is competition time , and anyone is ready for it .
And we are of , it’s quiet cool and the light breeze is cutting across . We are all heading down the loch . Playing the soft lures on the way down is certainly not producing , not a fish , not a touch in sight .
It’s a slow morning for all , one small pike here and there , it’s going to be tough . So why not enjoy the day and start the lazy ledgering . We all park and send our anchors down close to our friends and let the fishing biggin .
We are getting bites and somehow pulling some fish up , and it’s now time to measure those and release them . My perch is slapping on the rubber ruller and it’s a fair one , 34 cm .
The next step is to catch a pike , any pike , those fish are certainly longer than any monster perch . On the day not many anglers managed a pike and I certainly did not , however the perch fishing was good .
Seven and half hours later we all paddle back to the trophy ceremony each of us wishing for a prize . The winner managed a meter long pike at least and surely put a big smile on his face .
After that we just sat next to the fishing vans , the guys made beautiful dinner and we all got whisky . Whisky is a local produce made in Scotland , makes you happy in no time .
The next morning we all got up early again , my head was thumping , the whisky ! We gently drifted back down the loch and without pressure enjoyed a fine perch and crayfish session .
Loch Ken 2017 kayak fishing was an absolute success , the organisation was tremendous and happy to say all of us had a great time . We will be back , oh yes we will .
