Planned long in advance the RNLI boat and kayak fishing competition was sadly cancelled due to adverse wild Scottish weather . However with the time booked off and all the little preparation prior to the trip we still decided to go out . Our group was small to start of this time , Only 3 kayaks and a motorised dingy out for the day .We spend the night tucked in the car , with a good breeze and some lashing rain hammering the windows we wandered what the next day would bring . Up and ready the next morning we were ready to go and a quick check on the dashboard , indicating a paltry 2C . We paddled out heading up the way in total wilderness .The snow was sticking up the mountain slopes , the sleet was falling down and my fingers gripped on the paddle were numb , just about to fall . Never the less the sea was calm and the wind gentle .The tide was rising slowly and the three of us drifted gently . A set of baited feathers hovering close to the bottom I was soon into a fish .The first cod , codling of the day was surfacing in really cold condition . I unhooked the kelped coloured creature and straight returned it to the water . And then another bite , another codling . This lasted another 20 minutes with some more fish and we paddled right across the sea loch . At that time we joined the dingy basher , father and 2 sons having a fun day . Same again , slow drift , rocky ground and some more fish came our ways .A poorcod and a Saith that was already three species on the day . The temperature was slowly warming up and we decided to paddle to the bothy . Now that is a trek ! Glen and myself paddled and paddled into the great wilderness . Eventually we reach the little house and were greeted by 2 outdoors fanatics .Visit of the little cottage ,2 large rooms with wood burning fireplace , a small bedroom with 2 large bunk bed , what a place , clean and tidy . Part two of the trip was to paddle back and rejoin the fishers .With the wind strengthening and a long journey back we hugged the coastline as much I we could . An hour later hard paddling we eventually rejoin our pals in a little bay .We stopped for a while around a little drift wood fire , warm enough to keep us dry . We extinguished the fire then paddled further on and cowered next to the quarry , sore sight in the magnificent landscape . Eventually we reach our launching spot , height hours later . On the day we truly enjoyed the wild landscape , fishing was sparse , little fish about and the kids managed a decent ling too.The kids were loving it our arms were aching of pure happiness .Till next adventure tight lines all .
